ABOUT SSC

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an Indian organization to recruit staff for various posts in the various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices.It was founded in 1977, the Staff Selection Commission‘s (SSC) main objective is to conduct various examinations for a number of posts in the government departments. The SSC exam analyze the one’s/individual’s ability to work in public sector jobs.
As the job is in the government sector, the responsibilities upon the recruits (SSC) are very high due to the fact that their work reflects upon the smooth working of the whole country. Therefore, the SSC exam is extremely critical with a wide syllabus; to ascertain that only the best can clear it.

The Staff Selection Commission conducts following exams every year for various posts:

  •    SSC Combined Graduate Level (SSC-CGL).
  •    SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC-CHSL).
  •    SSC Lower Division Clerk (SSC-LDC).
  •    SSC Multi Tasking Staff (SSC-MTS) and many more exams….

SSC CGL Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Graduate Level Prelims Exam once a year for selection of candidates for the main Examination.

Exam Pattern - The Examination will be conducted in three tiers as mentioned below:
  •    Tier -I – Computer Based (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  •    Tier -II – Computer Based (Objective Multiple Choice Type)
  •    Tier -III – Descriptive Paper in English / Hindi ( Pen and paper mode)
  •    Tier -IV – Skill Test/Computer Proficiency Test (Wherever Applicable )

Final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks in Mains and Interview (weightage: 80% Written Test & 20% Interview)
Note: Interviews have been discontinued from 2016 onwards.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern 2017 for Tier 1, 2, and 3
SSC CGL Tier I Exam Pattern
SSC CGL Tier I is mandatory for all the posts and its marks are added for further process as well. If you do not clear cut-off of Tier I Exam then you will not be eligible for Tier II. Below table shows the section wise breakup of questions and marks asked in SSC CGL Tier I exam.

SSC CGL 2017 Exam Syllabus Tier II

Tier-II of the Combined Graduate Level Examination -2017 will be of Objective Type Multiple Choice and will be conducted over a period of two days.

Paper-I: Quantitative Ability
You can refer the above table of Tier I Quantitative Aptitude because syllabus of Tier I and Tier II is same for Quantitative Aptitude.
Paper-II: English Language & Comprehension
Two topics are added in English section in tier II which are Active-Passive and cloze test.You can refer the table of SSC CGL 2017 Tier I English syllabus because all those topics are also asked in tier II.
Paper-III : For Statistics for Investigator Grade-II Post Only

Classification and Presentation of Statistical Data – Primary and Secondary data, Methods of data collection; Tabulation of data; Graphs and charts; Frequency distributions; Diagrammatic presentation of frequency distributions.

Measures of Central Tendency- Common measures of central tendency – mean median and mode; Partition values- quartiles, deciles, percentiles.

Measures of Dispersion- Common measures dispersion – range, quartile deviations, mean deviation and standard deviation; Measures of relative dispersion.

Moments, Skewness and Kurtosis – Different types of moments and their relationship; the meaning of skewness and kurtosis; different measures of skewness and kurtosis.

Correlation and Regression – Scatter diagram; simple correlation coefficient; simple regression lines; Spearman’s rank correlation; Measures of association of attributes; Multiple regression; Multiple and partial correlations (For three variables only).

Probability Theory – Meaning of probability; Different definitions of probability; Conditional probability; Compound probability; Independent events; Bayes’ theorem.

Random Variable and Probability Distributions – Random variable; Probability functions; Expectation and Variance of a random variable; Higher moments of a random variable; Binomial, Poisson, Normal and Exponential distributions; Joint distribution of two random variables (discrete).

Sampling Theory – Concept of population and sample; Parameter and statistic, Sampling and non-sampling errors; Probability and non-probability sampling techniques (simple random sampling, stratified sampling, multistage sampling, multiphase sampling, cluster sampling, systematic sampling, purposive sampling, convenience sampling and quota sampling); Sampling distribution(statement only); Sample size decisions.

Statistical Inference – Point estimation and interval estimation, Properties of a good estimator, Methods of estimation (Moments method, Maximum likelihood 21 method, Least squares method), Testing of hypothesis, Basic concept of testing, Small sample and large sample tests, Tests based on Z, t, Chi-square and F statistic, Confidence intervals.

Analysis of Variance – Analysis of one-way classified data and two-way classified data. Time Series Analysis – Components of time series, Determinations of trend component by different methods, Measurement of seasonal variation by different methods.

Index Numbers – Meaning of Index Numbers, Problems in the construction of index numbers, Types of index number, Different formulae, Base shifting and splicing of index numbers, Cost of living Index Numbers, Uses of Index Numbers.

Paper IV:
General Studies (Finance and Economics) for the post of Assistant Audit Officer in Indian Audit & Accounts Department under CAG.

SSC CGL Syllabus 2017 Tier III

The exam syllabus of SSC CGL Tier III isn’t much different from previous above. It will be written examination (offline mode) in which Precis Writing/Essay/Formal Letter/Informal Letter are asked. Time duration for tier III exam is 60 minutes.

Important Note:
  • Paper-I & II are compulsory for all the categories of posts.
  • Paper-III is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Statistical Investigator Gr.II& Compiler.
  • Paper IV is only for those candidates who apply for the post of Assistant Audit Officer.
  • Candidates opting for the post of Compiler and/or Statistical Investigator Gr. II and Assistant Audit Officer must ensure that they possess the requisite qualification as mentioned above. Commission reserves the right to take appropriate action against applicants who do not possess the requisite eligibility while opting for the post of Compiler and/or Statistical Investigator Gr. II and Assistant Audit Officer.
